DJ Freestyle is Australia's most prominent deep house producer/DJ.
With 21 international releases and remixes to date, on some of the best house music labels in the world, Colin has now firmly established his name on the house music map (with releases on labels such as BriqueRouge, Safe In Sound Music, Grab Recordings and Guesthouse Music, among others)
Headlining gigs in destinations such as Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belgium, UK, Canada and throughout the USA. Colin is the first Australian "deep house" producer/dj to tour internationally on the back of his releases.
Freestyle has been spinning groove based music for 16 years, aswell as being obsessed by it many years before in early childhood.
Before focusing most of his energies on house music production, Freestyle, a gifted technical dj, placed 1st in the Scratching division & 2nd in the Beat juggling category of "The Technics Ultimate DJ Showdown" in 2001. He also won mixing competitions in his home state twice in the early to mid 90's.
Freestyle’s diverse career has seen him work as an instructor for Technics and other schools, teaching the art of Scratching (old & new school styles), Harmonic Key Mixing and Production/Engineering.
Colin had his own radio show and has hosted several dance radio broadcasts. Freestyle has also played and been interviewed on radio shows across the globe.
Freestyle set up his own production facility "Funkshun Produkshuns" in january 1999.
Mark Farina names DJ Freestyle in US dance music magazine "BPM" as one of his favourite 3 producers, and a producer to watch out for in 2005! Several releases of Colin's have received great reviews in IDJ magazine, MUZIK and also DJ Magazine over the years.
Colin's releases have received support worldwide by most house music heavyweights such as:-
DJ Heather, Miguel Migs, DJ Sneak, Brett Johnson, Charles Webster, Kaskade, Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Jay J, Phil Weeks, JT Donaldson, Swirl People & Spettro!, the list goes on.
Freestyle's remix of Roy Davis Jnr's, "The Session" was selected by Mark Farina on his new double mix cd with Derrick Carter "Live at OM", Freestyle being the first house producer from Australia to be featured on the label, which took out housemusic label of the year several years in a row!
Much of Colin's music has been or is being remixed by some of the best in the business.
Colin's main influences in making music would have to be groups & producers from the early 80's such as Midnight Star, The Whispers, all early Jam & Lewis productions (Alex O'Neal, Cherelle, SOS Band etc), Kashif Productions (Evelyn King, Melba Moore, Jonny Kemp etc) Larry Levan & Francois K productions etc . Record Labels such as Prelude, Solar, Tabu, West End, Philly International, Salsoul etc (Early 80's Funk/Soul grooves mostly).
