Meet Jeff Mitchell, Grab Recordings front man and long time mainstay Dallas DJ & Producer. Since the early nineties, Jeff has been a staple in the development of the Dallas music scene, responsible for some of the strongest most memorable parties and club residencies in the city.
Influenced by his Detroit roots and love for the mushroom jazz sound of the early nineties, Jeff's musical tastes and skills as a DJ began playing Hip Hop & Down tempo. It was during this time in which Jeff and long time friend, Sean Holland (Fair Park, CoCo Machete, Hazy Daze Collective) formed the famed Thursday night weekly at the Rehab Lounge. This night drew loyal hip hop and house crowds totaling 500+ a week for a period of 2 years strong, with frequent special guests like Mark Farina, Julius Papp, De La Soul, Pal Joey, Peanut Butter Wolf and many others.
As the Dallas House music scene grew stronger from such influences like the Hazey Daze collective and sounds coming out of Chicago and San Francisco, so did Jeff's love for mixing house music. As a DJ, Jeff's deep house style was soon developed into his own formidable sound known for its motivating funky feel and use of jazz, hip hop, soul and Latin textures. With a strong sense of musical versatility and his seamless part rockin ability, Jeff's reputation has put him at the for front of the Dallas scene for many years and has granted him opportunities to play all over the United States along side the likes of Mark Farina, Demarkus Lewis, JT Donaldson, Mark Grant, Julius Papp, Groove Collective, Biz Markie, Lance Desardi, DJ Sneak, Doc Martin, Brett Johnson, Rasoul and many more.
As a producer, Jeff launched his first celebrated release on OM Records, under his production pseudo name "Jazmin & Face". Since then his discography has grown 16 releases strong on such labels like Central Park Recordings, Fair Park Recordings, M Street Recordings, Ploff Music, Doubledown Recordings, Public Access and his own Grab Recordings imprint. His production style can range from gorgeous deep jazzy tunes with some soul influence all the way to quirky, funktified, bumpity bumps with a down and dirty appeal. Due to broad rangeof musical tastes Jeff has a number of production pseudo names such as DaddY J, Jazmin & Face, E.O.C. and Bug Legs.
In 2002, Jeff founded Grab Recordings with the help of long time friend Sean Holland ( Syntax). Now on the labels 26th release, Grab has picked up major steam and widely earned global respect from House DJs and media all over the world.
Fast forward to the present day, Grab is rolling strong and has built an impressive roster of the freshest producers in the business such as Rhythm Slaves, Andrew Macari, JT Donaldson, Greens Keepers, Jazmin & Face, EOC, Demarkus Lewis, Troydon, Lance Desardi, Spettro, DJ Freestyle, Thomas Sahs and more.
Whether it's DJing, producing or running the record label, Jeff's motto is simple, "Keep your Eyes on the Prize, never let up, always deliver the music that uplifts the people, keep smiling and puts the boogie in their butts!" Keep your ears peeled in 2005!
