biography

On October 11th, 1970, the artist known as Roos was born. In 1974, he began classical piano lessons. Through the next few years, Roos was schooled in Bass, Drums, and various percussion instruments while his parental units introduced him to music of various genres from around the world. Roos knew at a very young age that he wanted to be involved in music in any and every way possible.

In 1982, Roos was introduced into the world of DJing, Breakdancing, and hip-hop music in Houston, Texas. 1985 rolled around and Roos also found the beat of electronic dance music. While working his way through various clubs, private parties, weddings, school dances, and anything else he could find as a DJ, Roos was also performing in a local Punk band called Sloth Patrol, scoring a local hit in an electronic dance duo called Sans Finis, and opening up for the likes of The Getto Boys in a hip-hop trio called Rendezvous Two.

Through the next few years, Roos had not only been DJing steadily at a plethora of Houston nightclubs, but he had also ventured into the world of mainstream Rock radio as an on-air DJ, Production Director, Music Director, and Audio Engineer. Roos was also requested as the ‘in-flight DJ’ for NASA Space Shuttle flight STS-26, providing music for the astronauts while they worked… a VERY unique experience.

After growing tired of the monotony of club music in the 90’s, Roos left Houston to go to work for Club Med Vacation Resorts as an Entertainment Director, Musician, DJ, and Light Technician in various resorts in the French West Indies, British West Indies, Bahamas, Mexico, and the US. After 6 years of DJing 7 nights a week, sometimes for up to 9 hours straight for a conglomerate of people from all around the world all in one resort, Roos began to miss the city life and the access to music that living in the Islands did not provide. He eventually returned to the US and relocated to Dallas, Texas.

Now, Roos can be heard in Dallas playing a musical mix that you can’t help but move to, under the moniker ‘JustMike’… three nights a week at Zubar, OBar, and on Saturdays at Minc Lounge with local legend DJ Red Eye. When not playing his regular gigs, JustMike has been opening for the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Derrick May, Derrick Carter, DJ Swamp, Mark Grant, Marques Wyatt, and more… while still pumping out original music from various ends of the electronic spectrum to pass to the masses.
